Big Bayeux Bash - British Museum

  • British Museum Great Russell St London WC1B 3DG United Kingdom (map)

Join us for short performances at the British Museum, between 11.30–12.00 and 13.30–14.00

Through three recitations (Old French, Old English and Latin), Idrîsî’s short programme approaches 1066 from different sides: Norman legend, English defeat, and Harold’s final fate. Around them, the ensemble performs a medieval narrative song from the Channel-Atlantic world, a Sibylline prophecy and Greek polyphonic laments: music that mirrors the Bayeux Tapestry’s stylised storytelling, evokes the apocalyptic language of judgement surrounding conquest and the Domesday Book, and gives sound to the human grief left in its wake.
