In Trobairitz Compass, members of Idrîsî Ensemble join Grammy award-winning musician Francesco Turrisi and composer-violinist Layale Chaker for a new project that weaves together Arabic, Syriac, Greek, Occitan, Andalusian and Corsican traditions, at The Black Abbey in Kilkenny, Ireland on Friday 7th August at 7pm.
At its heart are the Trobairitz, the women troubadours of medieval Occitania, whose voices moved between poetry, politics, devotion and desire. Inspired by al-Idrisi, Trobairitz Compass imagines the Mediterranean not as a border, but as a place where languages, faiths and sonic worlds converge to thrilling effect.
